Testosterone Replacement Therapy…Help or Hazard?

leave a comment

Okay guys, we’ve know that testosterone is the number one hormone, especially when it comes to normal sexual function and prostate health in men.

We also know that with andropause (a.k.a male menopause) comes an increase of dehydrotestosterone (DHT) a.k.a a mutant form of testosterone or to put it bluntly “bad testosterone.  The increase in DHT can cause hair loss, excess weight gain, prostate problems, irritability, sexual dysfunction and a whole host of other issues.

Enter testosterone replacement therapy, a common treatment that doctors prescribe to counter the issues associated with andropause.

Testosterone replacement therapy can either be administered via injection, orally or by wearing a patch.

While this may be an effective method of treatment for some men going through issues associated with andropause, as mentioned in previous posts, there are risks of side effects which range from agitation, restlessness, rapid heart rate, polycythemia (excess of red blood cells), and growth of the prostate gland.

To be honest, this artificial building of testosterone sounds kind of scary.  We can’t help but think of the athletes that have used testosterone replacement therapy to boost their physical performance before the “big game” only to hear terrible stories of how it caused violent rampages or to put it bluntly “roid-rage.”

Remember what happened to WWE wrestler, Chris Benoit?  Autopsy findings reported elevated levels of testosterone caused by steroids.  Whether he was using steroids for performance enhancement or whether he was using them because of testicular insufficiency is unknown.  It’s also unknown whether the ‘roids’ contributed to his murderous rampage but we can’t deny that it is a possibility.

Men, you may want to consider other options before you choose testosterone replacement therapy.

Remember, the herbs and other nutrients in male enhancement supplements have been proven highly effective in naturally elevating the body’s levels of existing testosterone while blocking the formation of DHT.  Ingredients like Tongkat Ali, Tribulus terrestris, Omega 3 fatty acids, Macuna Pruriens, Saw Palmetto and Horny Goat Weed are a good start.

Of course they also seem much less invasive.

Celery a.k.a “Vegetable Viagra”

leave a comment

So we’ve talked about some male enhancement foods that have aphrodisiac-like effects such as watermelon, pomegranate, fish and oysters etc. but we have yet to mention a particular male enhancement vegetable.

Actually, this vegetable is labeled “Vegetable Viagra.”

And the veggie is…good old celery.

According to the book, Stay Young: Ten Proven Steps to Ultimate Health written by authors Judy Gaman, Dr. Walter Gaman and Dr. Mark Anderson, celery significantly increases pheromone secretion.

Pheromones are the chemicals secreted by the body which trigger a social response, or to put it more bluntly, the signal that tells us … it’s mating time!

Celery contains a naturally occurring steroid called androstenone which is found in both female and male sweat – consider it the “scent of love.”

Apparently the effects of eating celery are supposed to be immediate.  “We recommend that a guy work out, have a nice warm shower, chomp on a few sticks of celery, brush his teeth and then head out the door smelling good,” said Dr. Gaman.

Men, here’s another good reason why you should eat celery:  it heightens your sex drive and increases your amount of semen during ejaculation.  This will make your climaxes feel much more intense.

Hmm … maybe this is another male enhancement ingredient we should keep our eyes on.

Care for some celery gentlemen?

How to Maintain a Healthy Prostate

one comment

Previously we briefly talked about how erectile issues may be related to problems with the prostate gland.

The prostate is a very important organ in the male reproductive system.  It is where fluid for semen is produced and it is what protects the sperm.  As men get older, the gland begins to grow, takes a break for a few years (20s to 30s) and then starts growing again in our 40s and it can keep growing.

FYI Guys…a normal healthy prostate should be the size of a walnut.

If it doubles that size then problems begin.  Maybe some of you start waking up at night to pee. Or maybe some of you pee many times during the day but the amount of urine you release probably isn’t even enough to fill a Dixie cup.  Perhaps it burns when you pee.

What’s more, your sex drive is low, your erections are half hard, or worse…non-existent.

Now when this happens, you may start thinking that surgery and Viagra are your only options.  Okay so surgery (prostectomy) may shrink your prostate gland or the doctor may even choose to remove the whole gland (depending on how enlarged it is).  For men that have had a prostectomy, many of them will tell you that they now suffer from erectile dysfunction.  So the doctor may prescribe Viagra or penis devices to restore sensation to that area.

Guys, there’s another option.  You may want to consider looking for this ingredient that’s used in a lot of natural male enhancement formulas.

The ingredient is saw palmetto.

Consider this, the Journal of the American Medical Association reports that saw palmetto is effective in treating symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate a.k.a BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia).

Saw palmetto works by preventing the formation of dihydrotestosterone (bad testosterone), and by relaxing smooth muscle – two things we need for good erections…healthy T-levels and relaxed muscle tissue.

So men, if you’re looking around for a natural supplement that will help with prostate issues or if you’re looking for a male enhancement supplement to help restore your sexual performance, you may want to look for a product that contains saw palmetto.

Of course always check with your doctor first to see if it’s okay for you take natural supplements, especially if you have any medical conditions.

Another Male Enhancement Fruit

Okay Guys, we’ll continue to praise the benefits of natural male enhancement over prescription drugs.

Now we’ve just discovered that there’s another good male enhancement food that can help give you rock-hard erections.

And the food is…Pomegranate.

As you know, 40 per cent of men over the age of 40 encounter issues with achieving erections substantial enough for sexual activity.  According to the International Journal of Impotence Research, pomegranate juice shows promise in helping men who are experiencing erectile difficulties.  The journal reported the effects of a study conducted on 61 men who experienced male impotence.  Some men were given 100 %  Pomegranate Juice while others were given a placebo.  Forty seven per cent of the participants reported improvement in their erections after one month of drinking 8 oz of pomegranate juice daily.

Pomegranate juice is a rich source of vitamin C, vitamin B5, potassium and it is also a powerful antioxidant.  Because of its powerful anti oxidizing properties, pomegranate can help reduce plaque in the arteries which as a result improves blood flow (particularly in the genital area).

So guys don’t be surprised if this will be one ingredient added to the male enhancement list of ‘must haves.’

 Care for some pomegranate anyone?

Mucuna Pruriens–another male enhancement ‘must have’

leave a comment

There is another magic ingredient used in natural male enhancement supplements that can reduce stress and increase sperm count.

Like many of the other natural ingredients we’ve discussed, this ingredient has been in use for centuries because of its aphrodisiac effects.  In fact more and more male enhancement products are including this ingredient in their formulation.

Mucuna Pruriens have long been used in Ayurvedic (traditional Indian) and Chinese medicine to help with various ailments in addition to sexual dysfunction.

What are Mucuna Pruriens?

Mucuna Pruriens are a member of the legume family and is a native plant grown in India, Africa and the Caribbean.  The plant grows as an annual shrub whose branches can reach up to 15 meters in length.  In its young stages the plant is completely covered with hair but as it grows older the hairs disappear.  Each plant has pods which store the beans.  The beans are either black or brown in colour.

Mucuna Pruriens mechanism of action is to help the body release dopamine (a neurotransmitter in the brain).  Dopamine is responsible for the proper function of the nervous system, a person’s emotions, sexual health and the body’s mobility.  High levels of dopamine cause the “feel good” response whereas low levels of dopamine can cause irritability, anxiety and sexual dysfunction.

Scientists from around the world are beginning to recognize the health benefits that Mucuna Pruriens has on a number of conditions ranging from Parkinson’s disease, infertility and sexual dysfunction.

So guys, here is one other ingredient to add to the list if you’re looking for a good male enhancer.
